Artistic Practice

Millicent Oriel Aps creates chalk artworks that celebrate the natural world, drawing inspiration from the Malvern Hills and its surroundings. Her contemporary pieces, both original and prints, emerge from a careful observation of seasonal changes and the interplay between climate and nature.

Her process is deeply rooted in direct observation, exploring the intricate relationship between humanity and the environment. This approach allows her to reflect on the human condition through the lens of nature’s constant flux—growth, decay, energy, and rest.

Nature serves as both her muse and medium. Immersed in its elements—weather, light, color, and sound—she finds inspiration and solace. Her artwork captures the essence of these experiences with energetic and direct chalk-strokes, translating the vivid moods of the natural world into a dynamic visual language.
